2590 N. 12th Ave., @velluspeachfuzz
What inspired you to get started?
The start was back before memories were even being tucked in the old filing cabinet upstairs—I’ve forever been interested in all things in the beauty category. Hair, makeup, dress-up and any form of self-expression have been with me since the beginning of my life.
Now that you’re established, what motivates you to keep going?
I keep going despite the awfully achy bones before 30 because it’s the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. The short answer: I keep going for my clients. I love you.
How would you describe your business to someone who’s never heard of it?
Peach Fuzz is a cozy and colorful place where you can come to transform your look. It’s a safe space for all people (excluding the bullies).
What’s the next goal or project you want to see happen for you and your business?
Not to risk sounding complacent, but I have no future goals for Peach Fuzz at this time. I’m working with people I love and things are going fine, oh fine! I’m living day by day and enjoying this current path.

What inspired you to get started?
In the Bible it says, “We get knocked down, but we get up again. You’re never gonna keep us down.” Now, I’m usually a Hoobastank man myself, but even I can admit that “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba is holy scripture from above.
Now that you’re established, what motivates you to keep going?
That’s the game, baby. You don’t do good work so you can earn the right to screw people over one day. You do the best you can forever because you want to be known as a person who did the best they could and made people’s lives better, right? Right?
How would you describe your business to someone who’s never heard of it?
Sacred Grounds refers to the idea that at the tattoo shop, everyone is equal. We see eye to eye because if we didn’t, we’d leave.

Glassy Day Studio
glassydaystudio.com
What inspired you to get started?
Glassy Day started with a desire to create designs based on the jewelry I’ve inherited from my grandmothers. As a long-time surfer, using the waste material from the board-shaping process was the perfect choice for creating pieces that other strong and water-loving women will wear.
Now that you’re established, what motivates you to keep going?
It’s so much more than jewelry. Ten percent of every sale supports kinship/relative care of foster children. This goes toward meals and caregiver events. We’re helping to fill a need and serve caregivers that are so often overlooked. Also, seeing a group of Glassy Gals in the wild is powerful.

Twenty-one years ago, vegan food options were limited and mostly uninspired when dining out. We wanted a place to enjoy a meal that didn’t have half the ingredients omitted. I loved the challenge of bringing new and old ideas to a modern table.
