Apple Music Classical plays a second chord – this time on Android

In just two months after its iOS debut, Apple Music Classical is now available for download on Android smartphones via the Google Play Store.

From the looks of it, it’s pretty much the same thing as the iPhone version. You still have access to over five million classical ad-free tracks in “up to 192 kHz/24 bit Hi-Res Lossless” audio. There’s also thousands of recordings supporting spatial audio, the same specialized search engine to help users find music by composer or work (among other criteria), and the over 700 expertly curated playlists. Needless to say, the quality is still there. Apple isn’t holding back in delivering a great experience on Android.

Apple Music Classical now available for free on Google

Earlier this year, Apple launched the Music Classical app that features more than 5 million tracks from celebrated masterpieces to new releases. Now, the app is available on Android and can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.

To give you a quick recap, Apple Music Classical is designed to handle the complex metadata of classical music albums and recordings. Apple says the app can also help users understand various genres of music with ease and compared to Apple Music, offers additional information for each track like editorial notes, composer biographies, descriptions of key works and more.

Back in March when Apple launched the iOS version of the app, the company explained that classical tracks have multiple movements and tracks, with known tracks having different conductors, soloists and orchestras. With Apple Music Classical, users can search using keyword combinations like composer name, opus number, artists, instrument and more.

It also supports crossplay, something Apple has limited to the Mac. One thing to note here is that Apple launched the Android app before making it available on the iPad and Mac. Apple Music Classical can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and is free for those with an Apple Music subscription.

The champions of recycling

FADED GLORY | A PANDEMIC PURGE

Su Timmerman opened the box, and it quickly became clear it came from someone who liked to run and was somewhat competitive and successful.

The trophies inside were from events such as the Corinth Rotary Races and the 1987 Arsenal City 5K Run i n upstate New York.

The identity of the athlete is a mystery. It’s unclear whether he or she moved to a smaller home, was just looking to reduce clutter or maybe had died and the runner’s children had cleaned out the house.

The trophies are finding a new but familiar purpose thanks to a Madison-based nonprofit that recycles thousands of trophies a year and, since COVID-19, has experienced a massive uptick in donations.

Total Awards & Promotions had been recycling trophies since the 1970s, but due to the increase in donations the company formed a nonprofit, the Nationwide Trophy Recycling Program, to do it. Its 3,000-square-foot space in Market Square Shopping Center is separate from the Total Awards showroom, which couldn’t handle the influx of donations.

People are also reading…

“That’s all people did during COVID is clean their basements and attics and people don’t want to throw these in the garbage,” said Total Awards CEO Janet Gray, whose parents founded the trophy business. “We keep them out of the landfill and pay it forward by giving them away free to nonprofits anywhere in the country.”

When Dave and Donna Gray started Total Awards & Promotions in 1977 from their home on Lake Wisconsin, trophies were primarily sold by bowling alleys, archery centers and jewelry stores. The couple bought a building in Poynette in 1980 and soon people were coming from Madison for the Grays’ products. The couple began delivering to Madison but in 1982 opened a store on University Avenue. In 2013, they found their way to Odana Road.

The Grays always had offered their recycled trophies to area nonprofits but in 2007 expanded the program nationwide. Prior to the pandemic, they would typically receive 10 boxes of trophies a week but now get double that amount. At one point during the pandemic, the Grays were taking in 25 boxes of trophies a day, which created a massive backlog that volunteers are still plowing through.

“The challenge is the volume. But it’s good news because you look at all of these boxes that continue to come in and all of this would otherwise be in the landfill,” said Jay Koritzinsky, a Madison attorney who is also president of the nonprofit’s board of directors. “And when you think about a marble base or a metal figure it will never deteriorate in a landfill, so this is a great cause.”

A fraction of the trophies may arrive in mint condition. Vintage or unique ones are sold on the first Saturday of the month with the proceeds used to cover rent and other expenditures.

The next sale is Saturday, the same day as the Friends of Sequoya Book Sale in a space next door. But unlike works of fiction, biographies or poetry, the trophy sale is literally rewarding. There are the typical sports trophies but also trophies that had been handed out for hitting sales goals or winning poker tournaments or a music contest.

Some are from as far back as the 1920s and 1930s. One features an alabaster onyx stone column with a tennis player on top. One shelving cabinet holds former Telly (excellence in video and television) and Clio (advertising) awards while a center table is filled with trophy cups, like those handed out at auto races or major sporting events. Some are large enough to hold ice and a bottle of champagne.

“We get boxes that are filled with cups like these. But sad to say many of the cups come completely scratched up so they go to metal recycling,” Janet Gray said. “These are the ones that are close to good. If you were to buy this new from us it could be $200, but at the sale they can be $40 to $50 or even less.”

But the majority of the trophies are dismantled with parts used by Dave Gray to build new trophies for nonprofits.

Armed with cordless drills tipped with sockets, volunteers remove nuts from the bottom of each trophy and work their way up, removing steel shafts, tin, aluminum or brass plates, marble and wooden bases, and plastic or resin figurines. Metal pieces too tattered are placed in recycling bins to be shipped off to a recycling facility, but most parts are separated into buckets and bins to make new trophies from old parts.

Volunteers such as Mary Ann Ihlenfeld gather three times a week to work on the trophy disassembly line with hopes of reducing a pile of boxes that fills much of the space. Ihlenfeld, a retired nurse, knows the trophies at one time held special meaning for people but is confident their new iterations will have similar meaning for their next recipients.

“I try not to think about that too much, but they already parted with it, so they made the decision that we should recycle it,” said Ihlenfeld, who can take a trophy apart in less than a minute. “We need to keep as much as we can out of the landfill. I mean, look at all of the boxes we have.”

And some of those boxes hold large trophies.

As Ihlenfeld took apart trophies, Koritzinsky worked on unwrapping newspaper and bubble wrap from a nearly 2-foot-tall third-place trophy for extemporaneous speaking awarded in 2015 at the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky, a prestigious high school speech and debate meet. In the store window stood six purple and gold trophies with purple gemstones handed out at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Two of them were 4 feet tall.

“We try to get rid of all the detail so that somebody else can use it — you know, taking off a (name) plate and adding a plate again,” Gray said. “These all came in with Mardi Gras beads covering them. They almost fall over they’re so big.”

Pop Shop Podcast – Billboard

Dua Lipa took the first fuzzy-stilettoed step toward the release of the Barbie film soundtrack last week when she dropped “Dance the Night,” the maiden song from the Greta Gerwig-directed summer movie.

In addition to Lipa’s disco-ready song and a sparkling video to match, we also learned that the soundtrack is executive produced by Mark Ronson (Lipa’s previous collaborator on Silk City’s “Electricity”) and saw the partial track list. Some of the biggest revelations from the track list are that Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice are teaming up with “Barbie Girl” band Aqua on the new song “Barbie World” and that Barbie star Ryan Gosling has his own song, appropriately titled “I’m Just Ken.”

On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are talking all about the star-studded soundtrack — which also features Lizzo, Karol G, Tame Impala and more — ahead of its July 21 release. Listen below:

Also on the show, we’ve got chart news on how Bad Bunny hops straight into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his latest single “Where She Goes”; how Beyonce’s Renaissance track “America Has a Problem” re-enters the chart, and into the top 40, thanks to a new remix with Kendrick Lamar; and how Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time now has the most weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart for a country album in over 30 years. Plus: Could Taylor Swift’s Midnights be a contender to dethrone Wallen thanks to the new Til Dawn Edition and a series of new tracks, including a “Karma” remix with Ice Spice and the “More Lana Del Rey Version” of “Snow on the Beach”?

Apple releases Apple Music Classical for Android before

After buying Primephonic in 2021, Apple premiered Apple Music Classical on iPhone at the end of March. Starting today, Android users with an Apple Music subscription can also tune in to the classics.

This story is supported by Mosyle, the only Apple Unified Platform. Mosyle is the only solution that fully integrates five different applications on a single Apple-only platform, allowing businesses and schools to easily and automatically deploy, manage, and protect all their Apple devices. Over 38,000 organizations leverage Mosyle solutions to automate the deployment, management, and security of millions of Apple devices daily. Request a FREE account today and discover how you can put your Apple fleet on auto-pilot at a price point that is hard to believe.

“This

Apple Music and Apple Music Classical are two distinct apps on the iPhone. While both apps share a similar design, the key difference is how Apple Music Classical handles metadata. Classical also uses a serif font like Apple Books while the main app is sans serif.

The same differences now apply to Apple Music and Apple Music Classical for Android. Notably, Apple Music Classical has launched on Android before the genre-specific app has been optimized for iPad and available on Mac. Apple Music Classical is also not viewable with CarPlay.

Prioritizing Apple Music Classical for Android over Apple’s other platforms does make sense, though. The separate app is based on Apple’s acquisition of Primephonic, which was a standalone classical music subscription service, and the Android app went away with Aplpe’s purchase. That’s similar to how Apple Music for Android has served as a replacement for Beats Music for Android.

Apple Music for Android has also been maintained well for a non-Apple platform app. Notably, the app even has crossfade support, something Apple’s platforms only support on the Mac. And while Apple Music Classical is a separate app that’s downloaded through the App Store, it hasn’t been updated since its initial launch.

Perhaps now that Apple Music Classical for Android has shipped, the team behind the app can focus on enhancing the iPhone experience or bringing dedicated apps to more Apple platforms. Imagine a classical symphony on the Reality Pro headset.

Apple Music Classical for Android is available as a free download on the Google Play Store. Access is included with a standard Apple Music membership.

“I Didn’t Fix This SH*T.”- Kevin Hart Once Suggested Using a “Unique Way” to Make Dwayne Johnson Patch Things Up With $15 Million Worth Hollywood Actor

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has risen to superstardom in Hollywood with his hard work and perseverance. However, that road to the top also led to making beautiful relationships with people and seeing some turn sour at the same time. The Great One has been publicly involved in reported feuds with former co-stars.

However, one of his now close friends and co-star, Kevin Hart once had a unique plan to make Dwayne resolve those issues, naming one particular Hollywood actor.

Which Hollywood actor was Kevin Hart talking about?

The Rock conquered the WWE landscape before arriving in the world of movies and television. Despite a sloppy start, he made a tremendous impact with his incredible performances in highly successful movies. However, many people would argue that The Rock’s ascend began with his debut in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Dwayne’s portrayal of DSS agent Luke Hobbs earned him massive praise. He used that role as an opportunity to do exhilarating films like San Andreas, Jumanji, and other installments of the Fast and Furious franchise. However, The Rock desired to do his own spin-off series of the franchise. Moreover, he put it on priority above the main Fast films. Therefore, he reportedly got him into a real-life feud with leading producer, Vin Diesel, and even his co-star, Tyrese Gibson.

The heat between The Rock and Tyrese went to an extreme level that the latter had even stated that he would quit the franchise if Johnson returned. However, The Rock’s co-star, Kevin Hart once had a brilliant yet bizarre idea to solve the matter between the two.

During an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Dotty in 2020, she asked Kevin what he would do if he got to be in The Rock’s body for 24 hours. Hart used the opportunity to list down numerous things, including patching up things with Tyrese Gibson.

“Imma go to Fast 26 … Fast and Furious 26 … Imma go (“you and Tyrese” said The Rock) yeah me and Tyrese … Imma go and make it work … so he has to come back the next day … I didn’t fix this sh*t … I didn’t do it … he would have to deal with everything I did.”

While Kevin Hart jokingly stated the above, he did mention that it would be Johnson who would have to deal with what he does, spending time in his body. Nevertheless, the WWE legend made his return to the Fast franchise with its latest entry.

The Rock is back in the Fast Family

The Rock’s highly public feud with his Fast co-stars led him to exit the franchise after ‘The Fate of the Furious’ film. He then starred in the spin-off series ‘Hobbs and Shaw alongside Jason Statham. It seemed like the former WWE champion would never return to Vin Diesel and his cast in the future.

However, all that changed with the release of the latest installment, Fast X. The Rock made a cameo appearance at the end of the film, returning as Luke Hobbs. This definitely means that he would appear in the remaining Fast films and maybe his feud with Tyrese Gibson and Vin Diesel is over.

Are you excited to see The Rock back in the Fast and Furious franchise? What do you make of Hart’s words? Let us know in the comments section below.

Last week, Metro announced the first three features, including Future, Don Toliver and James Blake. Known for his creative punch, Metro cleverly unveiled the lineup by posting illustrations of each artist in Spider-Man costumes. The first reveal was Don Toliver, who is in a purple custom Spidey suit. “Don Toliver is confirmed for the @spiderversemovie soundtrack available everywhere June 2!!,” wrote Metro. After disclosing Future and James Blake’s appearances in their respective illustrated costumes, the following posts shared similar captions.

The A$AP Mob commander’s appearance will be his first since his assist on Tyler, The Creator’s “Wharf Talk” last month and his loosie “Same Problems,” which dropped in January. “Same Problems” was a tribute that spoke to recent losses in hip-hop and learning how to break the generational trauma affecting today’s stars. “How many problems get solved?/ Am I a product of things that I saw/ How many problems get solved?/ Am I a product of things in my songs,” Rocky recited on the song’s chorus. There isn’t a timetable for the Harlem star’s forthcoming fourth album.

Check out all the illustrations below. The Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack drops Friday (June 2).
