SEOUL — KT Alpha, a commerce wing of South Korea’s major telecom company KT, showcased a soundtrack created by an artificial intelligence composer on a TV show. The music with a cheerful vibe was used for a veteran show host’s home shopping program, mostly consumed by women in their 40s and 50s.
The AI-based soundtrack was played on “Shin Jin-young’s S Shop” where many different luxury apparel items and home appliances are presented. The soundtrack was made by Genie Music, the online music service wing of KT, and an AI startup company called “Juice.” KT said the music was produced based on the show host’s honest personality and the concept of her show.
According to data cited by KT, the global generative AI music is projected to reach $2.6 billion by 2032 with an average annual growth rate of 28.6 percent. Genie Music has earlier released “Welcome to Hugh-Nam-dong Bookstore,” an audio drama created through collaboration between human and artificial intelligence voice actors. The online music service company collaborated with Millie’s Library, an online e-book subscription platform, for the voice drama series.
The adoption of AI composers has gained momentum in South Korea’s entertainment sector. In October 2020, singer-songwriter Hayeon, also known as a younger sister of Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon, rolled out her debut single titled “Eyes On You” in collaboration with EvoM, an AI composer developed by the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
