The iconic plumber brothers Mario and Luigi are back on the screen with the film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film, based on the world-renowned 1983 arcade video game, arrived in cinemas on April 5th. The game was popular for its music and jingles, many of which are still remembered by people.

Brian Tyler Worked with the Original Game’s Music Composer, Koji Kondo
Tyler is known for his works on films like Fast & Furious and Iron Man 3. For The Super Mario Bros. Movie, he collaborated with the game’s music composer Koji Kondo to incorporate classic themes into the film.
“There are hundreds, I think, of references in my music that reference the game, but it is an original score. Koji Kondo, the original writer of this music, who I adore and am friends with, was a big part of this,” Tyler revealed in an interview.
“I would talk to him back and forth: ‘Ok, what about this? What do you think if I did this?’ because I wanted to incorporate things. Sometimes it’s invisible, [or] just like an Easter egg. The harp might be doing a line from the select screen on Mario Kart that only happens when you’re in the waiting room,” he added.
